Mission Statement
At Musicals and Melodies, we strongly believe it’s important to create a place where girls can grow without competition and comparison. Instead, we teach girls that they can shine together.
Our mission is to empower girls through musical theater by nurturing their vocal, acting, and performance talents while building self-confidence, strong character, and teamwork. We create a fun, supportive environment where every girl is valued, friendships are formed, and participants encourage and uplift one another.
How We Started
From the very beginning, the Holdaway home has been a place where children could learn, grow, and belong. Renee’ taught preschool and offered summer camps for children. Growing up in a home filled with kids, Shelby was inspired by her mother's work to start a summer singing camp for younger girls. That summer, in 2009, Musicals and Melodies was born. None of us could have imagined that our small, homemade living room stage would grow into the program it is today!
Our Shows
Our shows are structured as musical revues packed with entertaining show tunes performed by the whole cast, half cast, and small groups. Every number performed on stage features fun sets, costumes, dancing, and live singing. Between each stage song, audiences enjoy one of the following:
Live or recorded interactive games hosted by cast members
Video clips projected on a screen, such as cast interviews, rehearsal footage, and music videos performed by the cast
“Curtain songs” performed in front of the curtain, often featuring slower, ballad style show tunes
Each year, we present our summer show, with rehearsals typically beginning in May and performances in mid-July. We also often have a spring and/or fall show usually with a fun theme such as At The Movies, Valentines, or Spooktacular!
Occasionally, we offer workshops that give the girls the opportunity to work together as a creative team to plan their own show while participating in activities that develop directing skills such as leadership, creativity, and teamwork.
Our Rehearsals
For rehearsals, the cast is divided into three age groups: Future Stars (ages 4-6), Rising Stars (1st-5th grade), and Shining Stars (6th-12th grade).
Each age group has its own rehearsals and comes together for full-cast rehearsals throughout the production. Rehearsals are where the show comes to life, so regular attendance is essential for a successful performance.
We welcome girls of any experience level who are excited to learn, practice, support one another, and grow as a team!
